Pakistan: Long March, Wrong March or a Quick March?

The long march of respected Dr,Tahir-ul-Qadri to Islamabad on the 14th Jan 2013 to bring about political reforms to save the state !

By Sethi Mushtaq

“We have been so accustomed to imported items. That even imported Prime Ministers were gladly welcomed to rule us.

Now leaders from abroad are being imported to provide deliverance from our misery’s.

Caution is needed,Pakistan does not need nor can afford a “CHANGE” on the pattern of Arab Spring !

It would prove anarchical and lead the country into chaos,as witnessed in those Arab states !”

In a democratic process, protests rally and even long marches by the opposition forces against  the government are not new neither unusual nor undemocratic. However, they always had a specific agenda or a defined cause ! For instance, the jointly organized by the lawyer fraternity, civil society and many political party’s, long march undertaken in the year 2008, for the restoration of the judges arbitrarily and illegally removed from their office and held under house arrest by a dictator ruling the country then. The second types are to pressurize a ruling government to quit power for reasons of bad governance and to bring in new one through the process of ballot.

But unfortunately the one planned to be launched under the leadership of Dr.Tahir ul Qadri, on the 14th Jan 2013 to Islamabad apparently seems devoid of any clear well defined agenda or a plausible cause. On the contrary it is instrumental in raising many apprehensions, specially of creating a law and order situation leading to chaos and anarchy.More so, that to when the country itself is in the grip of internal and external security threats from various anti-Pakistan forces and a peaceful transitional process of power through a democratic process is just about some months ahead ?.

Briefly, the respected Dr.AllamaTahir ul Qadri, who has been acclaimed for spreading moderate Islamic Sufism and rose to prominence, when  few years back he issued a Fatwa condemning suicide bombing.I shall not dispute his good intents. But  what has been observed with serious concern is, that while explaining Islam in light of the so-called ongoing War on Terror (WOT) launched by the USA and it’s European ally,he has never made any direct attempt to reflect and deflect the nefarious labeling of Muslims followers of Islam, by the west.He failed to categorically declare that Muslims are not the terrorist, but in fact the biggest victims of terrorism.

If not that be the case, then one would expect him to stand tall and claim not only that Muslims are not the terrorist, but the biggest victims of terrorism !

Undeniably and without dispute,it is apparent that his knowledge of the teaching of Islam is credible, but unfortunately it seems his in-depth insight of the War On Terror (WOT) and the broader global dominance picture drawn by the super powers under the New World Order is either naively poor or else….

He should him bring out facts and figures before the west and question them over the millions of body bags of Muslims, that  they have killed in the past decade. Also to justify, why are they invading and occupying Muslim land and resources under the so-called WOT and what is his viewpoint about the extrajudicial killing by the US continued assassin Drone attacks on innocent human beings coupled with violating the sovereignty of independent states, who happen to be not at war with them, are they justified or not ?

Coming to his contention for holding this grand march. One would not disagree with what he has been pointing out, as the ills in the system which confront Pakistan. But the honest truth is none of it, is new to anyone .Nevertheless, some of the various important question which arises here and needs an honest answer could be that, why has he realized this after so many years after staying abroad and why the sudden concern, so close to the election date ? Furthermore, what possibly does he mean by the slogan “Siyasat Nahin Riasat ” meaning not Politics but the state first ?. The fact is that no state can can be visualized to be run without the Political element in place.Because it is the art or science of government or governing, especially the governing of a political entity, such as a nation, and the administration and control of its internal and external affairs!

Last but not least what does he wish to achieve once his march reaches the designated destination ,which of course is Islamabad the capital city of Pakistan ? Does he want to overthrow the present serving government and take over reign or what ….?

To be honest,I am afraid the solution of marching to snatch power under the duress of street power and not the democratic practice through the ballot process, is ill timed and ill affordable and not at all in the best interest of the country.Specially, considering and being mindful of the present already volatile conditions prevalent within the country.More so, when there are hardly 80 day’s left for the ballot with independent judiciary,ECP and vibrant media already in place to ensure free and fair transparent elections...Let the peoples mandate go to work under them !

If seen pragmatically there appears to be no reason for the state to be under an official or moral obligation in providing protection and facilitating their route. This march call right from the start is clearly an attempt to instigate and provoke a situation where a serious law and order situation may arise.Resulting in creating unimaginable and possibly an ugly chaotic impact within the areas en-route.Also posing a grave threat to the peace, tranquility and hardship in the daily life of the people residing and doing business in the remits from where it would be passing through.

They have been forewarned by the concerned state law enforcement authority of the impending dangers, if they proceed with their plans. Now,it should be entirely at their own risk and cost. God forbid any ugly situation develops en-route then the sponsors should be held responsible and accountable before the law of the land for the consequences for the same.

Personally,I feel his long march is actually a wrong march. It could only lead the country to anarchy or on second thoughts,I also have my reservations about the march completing the full length of the journey and could turn out to be a half march, similar to the last one for the restoration of the Judges. The government would probably accept his incomprehensible so-called demands and use it as a pretext to declare emergency to delay polls

Frankly,I smell something fishy.Such as a Noor-i-Khushti/Sabre rattling in this whole affair

  1. Sharjeel Ali Fikandari says:

TuQ might not have paid the media as much as every one thinks…..the enemy did not understand the methods employed by him. So they thought that they can demolish him with media and character assasinate him using the same technique used against musharraf sahab. If u observe carefully. Most of the interviews he did recently the host really tried to domolish TuQ using some really interesting scentences. The kind words of words and language used is similar to what enemy social media assets have been pumping out recently. But they dont fully understand the dynamics at play here….the techniques they use are not fresh, their following scripts to conduct psy ops…and the script they used to try to demolish tahir ul qadri was totally inadeququate…..they have even started a anti tahir ul qadri campaign through their assets and dummy accounts on social media….but because the people in cia mosad mi6 are not the original authors of the techniqnique the enemy employes. They are having the opposite effect to what the enemy intended.

India/israel/america nexus is trying to prevent PAK military from participating in political field by bogging them down on LoC.

their drawing our guys away from the real battle which is in Islamabad. the enemy combatants who are entrenched in the corridors of power since 2008…are facing a deadly charge on 14th january…the enemy wants to insure that their assets are able to carry out dirty and bloody politics while Pak Militaries limited attention span is consumed on external threats.

another dynamic is that if the military is bogged down on borders, it will be harder to insure free and fair election under army supervision. hence there will be room for haira phairy by enemy assets.

despite the skirmishes india will not attack us, untill america gives green signal. the cold start doctrine relies on a american thrust from the western border and involvement of nato airforces so to nutralise pakistani assets of strategic value.

Indians them selfs dont have the recources to destroy all the infastructure which requires to be destroyed so to make cold start a success.

so untill we see a build up on western border, and have war hysteria building in jangloosian parts of the world (wild west). we are relatively safe…

america never dives into uncertainty. not unless they are forced to. and right now their not forced to invade pakistan.

so if their going to come, we will see a build up of f16s, f22s and f35s in afghan airfields and we will have 3 us aircraft carrier groups with their f18s and ea18 growlers near our shores.

their plan is to split pakistani airspace into 3 zones.

western which will be covered by Nato + Israelis.

Eastern which will be covered by Indians and Israelis (Israelis have extensively trained to work in synergy with indians. and because nato and indian airforce cant really operate well together and synergise their efforts effectively, they decided to split it into eastern and western airial regions.)

and southern, which will be left to Aircraft carriers.

most of american stealth assets will be used to bomb the logistic lines leading into china and Iran…

the indians wont go in alone, that would be wasting recources and hence the potential loss will be too great for them to bounce back from intime for the co-ordinated attack.

because we are not seeing movement which could entail such an attack. we can be reasonably sure that its just a effort to take away militaries short attention span away from elections.

defence of the enemy combatants who occupy the national assembly and presidency and pm house etc is very important to the enemy.
their already inflicting massive damage on pakistan through these enemy combatants who they have entrenched in media, judiciary, assemblies and government.

ever since tahir ul qadri phenomena has occurred, enemy has put all its assets on one use. slander tahir ul qadri. media is on it (all be it failing misreably), ttp are on this agenda also enemy combatants in assemblies and government are in. their assets in social media are on it. pretty much every asset the enemy nexus controls is active against qadri sahab.

rehman malik gave warning to tahir ul qadri, if he doesnt stop, then their freinds in ttp will do suicide attack on him. just as if they are part of the same organisation.

Tahir ul Qadree has made all their parrots fly away…lol….their really freaked out about this. because this long march business can end the enemies monopoly over pakistans politics. it is in the enemies interest to make sure tahir ul qadree can not succeed and if the army gets involved in the movement then it will definately succeed. therefore it is in their best interest to seduce our military away from the actual battlefield.

  2. To really get to the bottom of this long march, I read many statements of Tahir-ul Qadri after reading this article of yours and have found a couple of interesting stuff.
You mentioned that Tahir-ul Qadri’s long march has no defined aim or purpose and that why is he after all these years starting this march?

Very simple, the purpose of this march is to pressurize the Government to ensure electoral reform, in other words, fair elections. Doing this at this period, with the elections near is what will make the public more aware of their rights to a rigged-free election.
So you see, his aim is a good one on behalf of the public. whilst the timing to is right, it’s the leaders and those involved in electoral fraud that are being anxious right now.
Such a march to demand something like this is very much welcome, it’s peaceful and does not break any law.

  3. tahir ul qadri fulfilled his promise , a big procession is in islamabad

  4. Tahir-ul Qadri is a “Made in America” Islamist. He went to Pakistan with the blessings of Canadian government of Islamophobe prime minister Stephen Harper – in order to further destablize nuclear Pakistan for the benefit of US-Israel.

  5. Dr Qadri’s long march is a success, infact a slap on the corrupt n shameless leaders and system. Such a protest was long awaited, but the current politicians are DEAF EVIL IMMORAL SHAMELESS CHARACTERLESS and infact AGAINST THE DEVELOPMENT OF COUNTRY and WELFARE OF PEOPLE.
Tahir ul Qadri is a hope, a light, a silver lining and if he fails now, we will not see hope again for the rest of our life (at least for
    Next 50 years).
I pray to God that give success to Tahir ul Qadri n shower his blessings on our country. Ameen

  6. Thank you gentlemen for contributing your valued views.much appreciated.Instead of replying separately I append below a joint response to all of your comments.

The ground reality is that majority of the people did not buy Qadri Sb,slogan. Now he stands alone and ridiculed!

Basically, his demands have throughout been deliberately unrealistic, with the aim that they would not be met. Thus provide him with the pretext to create chaos and anarchy.Probably people smelled his main agenda and that is the reason that none responded to his call.

The reality is that not a single political democratic force has agreed to support and participate in his long march. The fair size of participants were mainly from his own MQI networked 214 schools Madarass spread Punjab alone and from around 90 country’s where MQI has it’s chapters.

I am afraid,I wouldn’t agree that he has motivated the real indigenous core of the population. However,I agree he is a master orator and very articulately presents his thoughts.
Dr.TuQ Sb,possibly was bound to lead the country to chaos and anarchy.Thank God law enforcement agency’s did not react the way the former dictator did in the case of Lal Masjid incident. It is extremely sad that women and little toddlers were used as human shield. If one fell victim to the ongoing struggle,it would make him achieve his goal to sensationalize and gain local/International sympathy’s and support. But,he forgets how badly the country’s image could get tarnished and what chaos and anarchy it could result in within the country!

Already, his march as a cleric is passing a wrong global message that Pakistan’s nuclear assets are vulnerable and could get into the hands of the religious extremist!

It is all true. This has been the worst government Pakistan ever had. However, then again there is another reality that they are about to be finishing their worst rule of governance in an another couple of months. If had TuQ come a few years back then it would have been a different case. But at such a close time near to the elections. It would be absurd to use force to get them out, when they are going out themselves !
Mari ko marna ,kahan ke aqal hai ?

Reforms cannot be brought about standing on the street. They can only be made in the parliament from which one derives the power to do so.Actually, most of the so-called reforms that he is demanding already exist in the constitution and the ECP.I would suggest that he forms his party and then contests the elections and if he manages to be successful in gaining majority seats then gladly he may bring about all the reforms which he deems necessary.

According to him the assembly’s stand dissolved. Now,how and from whom is he demanding for the constitution reforms ?

Someone should, please ask him this question ?

Really ! It is silly, reforms can under the constitution be brought about by an elected parliament. If there is no parliament and no government then from which authority does he intend to have them remedied ?.I have a feeling he is thinking himself probably as the one man ,Judge, jury and the executioner

More so,this is not the first time that he has come so close to elections to try out his luck.First it was in 89 Zia era and then in 2002 ,Musharraf era.He won a seat and got elected to the parliament, but then to never did anything constructive.Just went of to Canada, after resigning from the parliament in protest.

Thus if viewed in light of his past stints,he has never gone far in what he under took!BTW,,any Idea why he has on both the aforesaid occasions been so close with the Military dictators ?…

In my personal opinion, just as some use the Sindh card,Punjab card and the other ethnic cards for their personal cause.Him,I feel is using the Shia card, hoping to gain their support and sympathy’s owing to the tragic and most sad unfortunate terrorist targeted killings of the people from that particular community .

Having all due regards and respects to him, is a controversial person. It has been witnessed that his deeds hardly appear to match his words…

Faily Noor-i-Khusti drama’s,final scene curtain dropped with him negotiating with the same government delegation whom he had declared as looters, cheats, crooks etc and dismissed. The truth is that he was provided a face saving way out to end the stalemate ?.

The track record shows that the ones who promised are known to make a U-Turn on their promises.Take the Charter of Democracy which they had signed with the second biggest party in the country, the PML-N.

In the end Mubarak ho :)
TuQ,according to certain estimates spent some 70-80 Crore Rs on his whole campaign, probably caused the traders in Islamabad a 3 times more loss and the colossal unknown loss to the national exchequer for all the expense incurred by the state administration for security arrangements !

Inconvenienced and terrified the residents of Islamabad for 4 day’s/nights and put his thousands of disciples through a torrid time braving the harsh weather and other hardships.

What did he gain and where ?.

In Urdu there is a saying \Khaya piya kuch nahin,Glass thori ,bara Anna shaib se lo\

May Allah bless us all and Pakistan, and keep in his aman (protection)always.Ameen. Pakistan Zindabad

Thank you and best kind regards.
